I’m Rosemarie Gleiser, a playful provocateur armed with scalpels, needles, and a relentless curiosity about the patchwork quilt of human identity.
Drawing from my rich Jewish heritage and the intricate dance of womanhood, my art is a cheeky poke at the careless acts that stitch together our world. As I slice into vellum and photographic paper, embedding either strands of human hair or teardrops of silicon, I’m not just creating art. Oh no, I’m conducting an archaeological dig into the layers of our existence!
Imagine each piece as a cocktail party where different aspects of life mingle. Environmental pollution sips a bitter martini with the power dynamics of relationships, discussing how authentic conversations and human encounters changed with the advancement in technology leading to existential crises. Meanwhile, Jewish identity and womanhood share an inside joke, chuckling over the absurdity of human antics.
Currently I am working on a book that tells the story of how my grandparents left Europe before the First World War in search for a safer future for the family in Latin America. The story unravels through different countries as it traces back the origin of my grandma’s recipes, guiding me to grow roses and travel through the history of Yiddish food and its influence on traditional Peruvian food.
Come, take a peek under the microscope with me, and let’s discover the beauty in the chaos, the order in the madness, and the humor in the profound. After all, if we can’t laugh at our beautifully flawed humanity, what are we even doing here?
Welcome to my world—where art meets life, with a wink and a smile.
